I found this great shopping site, it's called shopping.com. It's similar to Yahoo shopping, but with a much more defined user experience.
One of the useful things is that you not only see user-input reviews from the consumers, but also expert reviews from famous and reputable sites like cnet.com, metally.net and pcmag.com. Basically, you don't need to open a separate tab/window in your web browser and key in search terms of the product you're interested in. It is already available in front of you with a single click.
It also allows you to place shopping items side by side, so you can do a comparison for e.g. on technical specifications between two similar electronic products. I don't know if Yahoo shopping has this feature, but maybe the reason why I can't find it is because it's not user friendly!
Being the geeky me, I dived into the MP3 player section and searched for iPod nano. No, not the newest fat and urgly one, but the old iPod nano. With the new one out, the old ones should at least have some price dips. Personally, I prefer this particular version, because it's small, light, thin, mobile and very convenient to slip into pockets. I have this liking for long and slim gadgets, kinda like Motorola phones. I hate wide and bulky gadgets, because i can't slide them into my pocket and i hate having to carry things around.
The newest iPod nano is 2.06 inches in width, which converts to about 5.15 cm. And it's height? 2.75 inches = about 6.9 cm. That's like a very BIG square in your hands, which can't be placed in your pockets. Hey, pockets were invented for convenience!
Okay, so you say it has 8gb flash memory with video capability. Well, it depends on what you're buying your iPod for. In local Singapore context, train journey from the west end to the east won't take more than 2 hours. My 512mb memory card in my Nokia 5700 is only occupied with 280mb of songs, and that's able to provide me with more than 2 hours of songs already. I'd say 2gb is MORE than enough for many hours of listening. So, if you're someone who only listens to music (Yeah, we have to stand up in the train all the time, don't we?) and highly mobile, go for something thin, slim and slick.
But if you're someone who gets the seats in the buses and trains all the time, and you don't give up your seat to those needy ones, well then it's up to you to go with the new nano. Tell me, would you want to watch tv shows or movies standing up while holding the ugly fat thing in your hands? That'd be totally inconvenient, in my opinion.
Don't always think new is better. Sure, in terms of technical aspects, newer products might have the edge. BUT they're fairly new and untested. Remember, personal convenience is of utmost importance to ensure karmatic co-existence with your new toy.
