My suggestion is pretty simple, I don't know if others have suggested it and I don't care, but here goes!

See those brown lines? Yes those are non-slip rubber (like DUH!) strips. The best solution (IMO) to salvage the situation and not put to waste those structures.

Why I think these benches are problematic?

The bench's too tall man, and for short people, it's super troublesome for them to get on it. Even I have trouble sitting on it!

And that SLIPPERY surface, blardy hell. Is it lubricated?! I think when they tested out the design, the human subject wasn't wearing anything on.

Bad Testing == Bad Product

Kids should not even be on that thing. It's slipperingly (YES!) dangerous. Oh and old people, if say you need cash, just sit on that thing, fall down, break a bone or something. Then make your insurance claim or proceed with your lawsuit or whatever.

Okay so it's slippery and you can't do anything about it. But if the bench wasn't THAT high, we could've utilised FRICTION on our shoe soles to PREVENT ourselves from slipping.

Anyways, come on LTA. Those rubber strips won't cost much, considering the recent hike in transport fares.

  1. HAHAHA! i agree lor. especially this part: “I think when they tested out the design, the human subject wasn’t wearing anything on.”

damn slippery nak mampos lah this thing. i rather stand man. i remembered sitting on this thing with lydia and despite it being slippery, we sempat took silly videos of ourselves. haha okay whatever. random seh.

  2. I agree with you totally about the slippery part. But I think they designed it to be slippery so that those kids that loiter at mrt stations wont feel like sitting there too long.

But its a flaw of course. They could always loiter at the steps or something. Dumb design. That idea must have been out by a dumbass that just wanted to clear his “Suggest Something Scheme” quota and earned a lucky $5 bucks for implemented suggestion. =x

  3. Why would someone be insane enough to pay MRT fare just to loiter at THAT killer bench?

    But I agree. Dumb design.

  4. LOL, I thought I was the only idiot who find my a$$ slipping off that bench. =P

Its actually more relaxing to stand than to sit on one of those crap.

  5. precisely. (:

  6. guess what. i think they read your blog (and many others who complained bout the seats)

the seats are now flat! Yeay!

  7. No lah…I think it’s the feedback they’ve been getting as a whole from us Singaporeans. Hehehe

And it’s flat? Oouh okay gonan test it out!

  8. If they think that it’s slippery, just don’t sit.

  9. Hani: Probably the best solution, but minimum happiness.

Imagine you’re friggin tired/nauseous/headache and really need a sit, but you see that killer bench, so you just stare at it and don’t sit.

Based on this particular scenario, it’s not an option.
